How Pregnancy Due Dates are Calculated
Pregnancy due dates are calculated based on the first day of your last menstrual period (LMP). The standard pregnancy length is 280 days (40 weeks) from the LMP, though only about 5% of babies are born exactly on their due date.
Pregnancy Trimesters
First Trimester
- • Weeks 1-12
- • Major organ development
- • Morning sickness common
- • Highest miscarriage risk
Second Trimester
- • Weeks 13-27
- • "Golden period" of pregnancy
- • Baby movements felt
- • Anatomy scan performed
Third Trimester
- • Weeks 28-40
- • Rapid weight gain
- • Preparation for birth
- • Frequent prenatal visits
Key Pregnancy Milestones

Week 11-14: First Trimester Screening

Due Date Accuracy
Important to Remember:
- • Only 5% of babies are born on their exact due date
- • Most babies are born within 2 weeks of the due date
- • First-time mothers often deliver later than the due date
- • Ultrasound dating may be more accurate than LMP dating
